In our latest exclusive Luxury Reborn video graffiti godfather Blade hooks up with legendary Subway Art photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant to share stories about downtown New York, the early days of street art and why true luxury is the freedom to express yourself creatively One of the first wave of New York train writers who paved the way for the subsequent graffiti explosion, Blade painted thousands of subway trains from 1973-1983, inspiring a generation of budding artists and earning himself the title King of Graffiti. Later, he was one of the first graffiti artists to take his work into the downtown gallery scene, transforming 75 foot graffiti letters into 20 inch letters as he took paintings of trains onto canvas using the spray can. Photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant are still best known for their pioneering, hugely-influential book Subway Art, which documented New Yorks graffiti scene and inspired thousands of would-be street artists around the world, including our very own Banksy. Published in 1984, Subway Art recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a lavish oversized collectors edition, bringing Blade, Martha and Henry together for the London launch party at Shoreditchs Black Rat gallery, where we caught up with them. Marthas other books of note include Hip Hop Files: Photographs 1979-1984 while Henry co-produced and did the background research and photo-documentation for iconic film, Style Wars, still the best film ever made about …

Here’s a video of me performing “New York, New York” by Liza Minnelli at O’Neill’s Brass Rail in downtown New London, CT. This event was an after-party for our softball league.
This Sherman tank was being driving down the streets of downtown London on June 7, 2009. It was in a parade consisting of WW1 re-enactors in uniform, and it was for the opening of a new museum by the fork of the Thames. Right at the end of the opening ceremonies, they shot a blank through the cannon to the scare of everyone around! *Before the parade*: Jim to Police: “Do you really think this tank needs an escort??” Police: “It’s not the tank we’re escorting, it’s everyone else!” Video Rating: 5 / 5
Jay Gelfond and Peter Nystrom Debate: Downtown Revitalization The candidates for next weeks special Norwich City Council election differed the most on budget priorities during a forum Wednesday night. Veteran Republican Peter Nystrom and unaffiliated political novice Jay Gelfond were hosted at the Salvation Army building by the NAACP and Norwich Bully-Busters, the first and possibly last meeting before Tuesdays election. Most questions related to the budget, education funding and economic development. City Manager Alan Bergrens proposal to flat-fund the Board of Education next year was the source of first disagreement. I am definitely totally against flat funding, Gelfond said, saying he would see where else in the budget they could find money to support the boards increase. Nystrom said he would ask Norwich Free Academy to reconsider the 2.5 percent tuition increase it passed in the winter. Nystrom said his main concern is city jobs and taxes. Going door-to-door, people are very concerned about the mill rate, he said. Nystrom said the councils primary objective this year is averting as many layoffs as possible. Gelfond, whose background includes real estate appraisal, said encouraging home ownership is a key to expanding economic development. He said there is a need to have business in the downtown to counter a large number of social service operations, such as the homeless shelter and the soup kitchen. He said parking must be improved downtown to attract businesses …
